A transport helicopter CH-47D Chinook cubesats Australian Army crashed in Afghanistan, cubesats killing one passenger and wounding five other occupants. The incident occurred during a resupply mission 90 km east of the town of Tarin Kot. A shot from the ground was ruled as the cause of the accident.
Another American Chinook was sent immediately to provide medical assistance and evacuate the crew of the accident aircraft. Australian helicopter was destroyed on the spot after being considered unrecoverable.
There was no evidence of insurgent cubesats activity near the crash site, either before or after the incident. Australia has deployed to Afghanistan a group comprising two Chinook helicopters and 65 personnel from 5th Aviation Regiment. They are present in the United States Army in the 101st Combat Aviation Regiment based in Kandahar and they provide combat service support cubesats and medical evacuations.
