The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) has been put in place Friday, June 1: it is responsible for implementing the REACH regulation on chemicals came into force the same day.
Headquartered in Finland, the European Agency manages the entire system of registration, evaluation and authorization of chemicals policy. One of the first tasks of the Agency is to provide companies with sufficient information on how to comply with the new requirements. To this end, the Agency is launching a multilingual website, unique access to general information on chemicals and REACH guidance documents developed. From 1 June 2008, it will provide an interface for the online registration of substances as manufacturers and importers of chemicals will indeed have to pre-register with the Agency where they specify the type and volume of their production .
REACH stands for "Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals", aims to preserve the environment and the health of Europeans by taking an inventory of approximately 30,000 chemical substances in consumer products (textiles, vitbok toys, cosmetics. ..), whose impact on health has, for the most part, never been studied.
